St Matthew’s Yiewsley

Open, Nurturing, Reconciling

Mission Action Plan 2009-2012 (to be reviewed annually)

1. We are committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in 21st century London

We will develop and offer a Christian basics course such as ‘Alpha’ from early 2010.

2. We are committed to equipping the servants of Jesus Christ

We will:
a. Establish a lay-led Bible study group following the conclusion of the Faith in Willesden course.
b. Continue to develop creativity, vitality and openness to God in our worship.
c. We will take action to ensure that leadership in St Matthew’s reflects the range of church membership both in diversity of ethnic background and in age.

3. We are committed to telling the story of Jesus Christ afresh for this generation and especially for the young

We will:
a. Develop our youth group, Vibe, and consider the viability of meeting fortnightly.
b. Continue to support and develop the mission potential of Outline Theatre in accordance with its own business plan.
c. Develop plans to employ a church/school worker with a particular focus on helping children in St Matthew’s School with transition to Secondary School. We will do so with assistance from the Diocesan Children’s Society project team.
d. Develop and implement a new policy relating to baptism and give consideration to admitting children to communion and a revised approach to confirmation of young people.

4. We are committed to serving London and all her people

We will:
a. Explore ways of developing community uses for our buildings, particularly in partnership with St Matthew’s School and Hillingdon Community Trust.
b. Develop plans to fund and build a kitchen on to the Parish Centre, particularly with a view to increased community use of our buildings.
c. Establish a Church-School Liaison Group with St Matthew’s School.

5. We are committed to sharing God’s love in our world city

We will:
a. Develop an ALMA link with St Stephen’s Matola.
b. Explore specific initiatives to help homeless people in our community.
c. Review our charitable giving as a parish.
d. Work through the consequences of our eco-audit to reduce our carbon footprint and play a full part in the debate on ecological issues.
e. Develop our ministry to the housebound and elderly and build a team of pastoral visitors.
f. Improve the way we welcome and integrate newcomers into the life of our church.
g. Strive to achieve Fair Trade status as a parish.
h. Establish an e-parish with an international membership.
