27th August | Hello Friends,
Just a brief message too say hello to former residents and new ones of
Yiewsley and West Drayton. After a number of unpublished comments here on the visitor’s book, I’m wondering, Adam, if you are encountering problems with the laptop again!! I hope you are ok my friend, you are doing a splendid job with this! Maybe there are many more folks in the Yiewsley area that could be contributing interesting history, nostalgia, information, or just to say hi! Whether to relatives, friends, or even greetings too me, Nigel! Anyway, I think the web master would really appreciate some active response from all you lot out there, hey; I’m active right up here in Norwich! England expects every man to do his duty Jesus loves you! Gospel of John - c.3 v.16. I'm not sure where those comments could have gone i'm afraid! The comments don't come directly to me but through a server system set up by the previous webmaster. If you have problems in the future you can always send comments direct to me I'm also in the process of upgrading the site to run on new scripting so there might be a problem there. Adam |

10 August | Dear Adam and friends, During a recent sleep in duty at the residential care home I work at, I was able to watch Goldfinger a film which I hadn’t viewed for many a year! In 1964 my parents took me too the Odeon cinema in Uxbridge to see the Bond film on its release. It was only the 4th or 5th film I had ever seen. Some of the others being - the Moonspinners, The First Men on the Moon - Jason and the Argonauts - The Brothers Grim and Mary Poppins. My father was a keen Ian Flemming reader and I remember his stack of Bond novels well! Maybe others, here, can recall there earliest trips too the pictures? I do believe that part of carry on regardless was shot outside Yiewsley town hall in the early 60s. Like most kids then and now, the first trips bowled me over and often we would have fish n chips afterwards! Regards, Nigel. |

15 July 2008 | Hi, I wrote to your site earlier
this year. I
have just spent 3 weeks in London tracing family relatives - I turned
up in Yiewsley to track my Uncle William Joseph Moors and the house
where he lived is still there in Albert road! William Joseph and his son William John were builders and I was so surprised when visiting Colham Avenue to look up and find all the house names were related to the Moors’ family history - Godstone,(where William J was born- Caterham) oak villas (Oak road Caterham), Esther cottages (my great, great grandmother) Beatrice villas (that’s my grandmother) and many more...the houses are charming double storey brick Victorian and look so fine today - was a real delight to discover this. I am still looking for my Aunt Violet Esther Allen (William John's sister) from Yiewsley-Cowley district. I had such a wonderful visit. Regards from Beatrice - Australia |

14 June 2008 | Dear friends, great to see the
laptop in operation again! Just a short note to say Hi Adam and all contributors here. Thanks Mick for your memories of Mad Bob and Keith Richards which is very interesting! I visited the area of the rec during my last visit to Yiewsley and maybe, not surprisingly, I hardly recognised the site. My father frequented the Engine pub as his local many years ago during his lunch breaks while working at Albany Freight. I would still be interested if there are any survivors from St Matthews’ class of 1966 out there that may remember the white haired American kid as I was sometimes known as! The only teacher I can remember from the time was Miss Munroe. Hope to drop in again soon, God bless you, Nigel Carder. Nice to hear from you again Nigel. I too know the woes of laptop problems (even more frustrating when trying to run a website!). For finding old school friends I can recommend the forums at Yiewsley Chat Adam |
| Sue Holloway, |
13 June 2008 | Hi, I am looking for my cousin Peter Connell who used to live in Whitethorn Avenue, Yiewsley. He is the son of Albert & Alice Jane Connell both deceased. Last time I saw him was about 1985. I don’t know if there was any reason for him not staying in touch with the family. If anyone out there knows him I would love to hear from him again. Hi Sue,It my be an idea to get in touch with a few churches around the Yiewsley area and see if Peter is on or has been on their electoral role. They might not give out his details to you but if you ask i'm sure they wouldn't mind passing on a message from you. Adam, |

29 April 2008 | Hi, I am writing from Australia, I have just received my Uncle’s immigration papers and his next of kin resided at 40 Albert Road Yiewsley. Would this house still be there? Would it be possible to try to locate William D Moors? Best regards Beatrice (Moors) Day |
| Mick Baker, |
28 April 2008 | Hi. It's good to see comments about my old stomping ground. I was born in 1952, and I have a lot of fond memories of the area and its people. It's funny to read Nigel's comments of Mad Bob. Yes! I remember him. I think he lived at the end of Apple Tree Avenue, didn't he? I also remember the concrete shelters; they were in the allotment, behind Yiewsley football club, opposite the rec weren't they? What about pets and gardens in Fairfield Road? The hall at the back of the railway arms or when Keith Richards served behind the bar at The Engine… |

19 April 2008 | Dear friends, Hello once more, but only a short one this time, just scratching my head wondering why so little activity for so long. Adam, I will have my own e-mail address soon and a position on e-bay to market my works of art. Hope things are ok with you and friends at this site. God bless you. Nigel. |

28 March 2008 | Dear unknown friends & Adam, I am sorry but I have no knowledge on the history of Yiewsley, however I still retain fond childhood recollections of the early to mid 60s: Playground games, ( in the boys half of the playground!), at St Matthews, included flickers-as the name suggests, flicking bubble gum or cigarette cards with your competitor against a wall until yours or his landed on a card, and that card’s owner scooped all the cards remaining on the ground. All the usual favourites - conkers, marbles, ballgames (solid rubber balls were banned after bruised heads & broken windows!). Favourite comics-tv21, dc’s- superman, batman, (TV series too!), look & learn. Favourite TV - Fireball xl5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Get Smart, Man from uncle, Adam adamant, The avengers-(with miss peel!), Blue Peter, The Saint. Favourite Pop- Frank Ifield, Acker Bilk, Beatles, Davedeedozybeaky, Mick & Titch, The Monkees etc. Don’t miss the next instalment! Nigel. |

17 March 2008 | Hello folks, Just a short note this time to say Hi. I've noticed my last communication was not published and assume it was omitted at your discretion, that’s ok. To be honest I can’t quite remember what I sent now, must be due to the accelerated implosion of what’s left of memory functions at 52! To recap, would like any one who new me as a pupil at St. Matthews junior school during the years 1962 - 1966 to drop a line on this site. I lived above Blundels news agents & confectionery shop, the new parade, high street. However, it would be nice to see more activity from other folks here as it's gone somewhat quiet unless yiewsley has been wiped of the face of the earth by an asteroid !!! See ya, Nigel. Hello Nigel Appologies about your last entry, unfortunately I had a problem with my laptop and lost it. In reference to Yiewsley being wiped out by an asteroid you might not be far wrong! Residents and Former residents alike, join in and leave a comment! Adam |

14 January 2008 | Dear Adam and friends, Thank you kindly for including my comments in your magazine and wish all other contributors my best regards. Yes,I think the idea of some form of historical aspect of yiewsley by those who grew up in the town is a good idea. However, over the years,my childhood recollections have somewhat faded but would be more than happy to furnish folks with what does remain in my memory banks! Can anybody remember mad bob the oddbod rough sleeper who,i believe, lived in the wwii pillbox near the rec? God bless, Nigel Carder |

10 January 2008 | To all those involved in operating
this valuable site - thank you for adding my entry of 4/1/08 I guess I
was not expecting it! Last october was my last visit to West Drayton/Yiewsley on the sad occassion of my father's death at Hillingdon Hospital. He, Peter Carder, worked for many years in the air freight business eventualy retiring from his post at Albaney Freight. When i was a young lad he would occassionaly take me too Heathrow for planespotting or sail my model boat. I have come to realise, over the years, how valuable the christian basis of my schooling was during my time at St. Matthews little knowing, as a young 8 year old boy, that the seeds of the good news of Jesus, sown into our young lives would bear much fruit many years later as a 22 year old man, yielding his heart and life over to his saviour and Lord because he first loved us. Thanks again, shall be in touch! Nigel Carder, Norwich. Great to hear from you again Nigel and look forward to hearing from you in the future. What do you think about the idea of a page about the history of yiewsley put together by current and former residents? Adam, |
| Nigel Carder, |
4 January 2008 | Hello. I was once a resident of yiewsley, as a young lad, and lived above the Blundels news agents at the new parade apartments on the high street. My family and I moved into yiewsley after 6 years in Canada. I first attended St. Stephens school in 1961 and later St.Matthews school in 1963 -1966 after which I entered Townmead secondary modern until leaving yiewsley in winter of 1966. I remember this town as being one big playground with the nearby canal and railway tracks it's a wonder we ever survived! Remeber when the red cow pub caught fire? Were you a mod or rocker or mocker then? Knew some good friends- Kim Blundel, Phillip Robinson, my teacher, Miss Munroe [ Mrs Ballinger ] etc. Hi and love to all who knew me both friends and otherwise ! Nigel, Norwich. |

| John Callcut, Newdigate Society |
31 October 2007 | The Rev. Henry George Bird MA was
rector of newdigate throughout the first world war, and his son wilfred
was killed in 1915. I am writing a book about our village during that
period and, although the rector played a prominent part, i do not have
a picture of him or his family. As he was rector of St Matthews in
Yiewsley from 1881-1891 I was wondering if you have or know of the
whereabouts of any pictures. I do hope that you can help me with my
quest. Many Thanks, John Callcut |
| David Manning, Former resident, 1952-1969 |
26 August 2007 | I would like to confirm that Norman Tyrrell was once an organist at St Matthew's and possibly a teacher at the school. The period would have been the late 1950s and 1960s. I was friends with his son, Michael, and remember Norman to be a multi-talented man. Any information about the family would be appreciated. |

| John Garlick, Australia |
21 February 2007 | G'day Phil, my name is John Garlick
and I was born at 3 Whitethorn Place, Yiewsley. I have been in
Australia for over 25 years and I was browsing on the net the other
day, when I came across all this info on Yiewsley. I had some fantastic
times growing up there and I would love to come back and visit. I went
to school at Evelyns Secondary and Colham Manor Junior School. I
probably still have some school friends there and I would love to try
and get in touch with them. Maybe you could help me there? Regards,
John Garlick.
Hi John - I suggest you check out the Yiewsley Chat forum: some of your old mates may well hang out there from time to time. Best wishes, Phil |

27 July 2006 | Hello, I'm trying to find relatives on my father's side, surname Catling or Catlin. He was Frederick Thomas Catling and his parents were Lizzie and Tom Catling. He was only child, but had cousins who he has lost contact with. I would like to know if any are still in the area. |

| Diane West | 4 May 2006 | Do you have a page/community site
for those born and bred in Yiewsley but no longer live in the area? I
now live just outside Cambridge. I lived in Yiewsley until I was 17 -
my mother belonged to Young Wives and Mothers' Union, I was christened
and confirmed (1969?) at St Matthew's - no longer have family around
the area but would love to know what is going on and maybe get
involved.

| Bitu | 7 February 2006 | Sir, The best thing that can happen to Yiewsley is this development. Let's go forward, this town has been stagnant for the past 30 years and a new face lift is required for this town to survive. |
